Anthrax is one of the oldest diseases of grazing animals such as sheep and cattle. Anthrax is an acute disease caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis a bacterium that forms spores and also an aerobic bacterium that is about 1 by 9 micrometers in length. A spore is a cell that is dormant (asleep) but may come to life with the right conditions. Most forms of the disease are lethal, and it affects both humans and other animals. A bacterium is a very small organism made up of one cell and you should know that many bacteria can cause disease. There are effective vaccines against anthrax, and some forms of the disease respond well to antibiotic treatment.
